Getting Started

What do you want?

Why it matters

I have a very simple question for you: What do you want to do?

Think bigger than just your next position. Where do you want to be at the job after your next one? What path do you want to build for yourself and where do you want it to take you? Being a startup founder like Alexis Ohanian? Leading teams as an engineering manager at Google? Serving at a nonprofit like Code for America?

Figure out what you want -- before someone else figures it out for you.

Get started in the right direction, with the right first-principles, and your negotiation will become much easier. The full Playbook can guide you.

Who's the best?

Why it matters

For most folk's career success, the most important factor will be the network. The better your network, the better the opportunities you'll have access to, the faster you'll grow, and the more value you'll be able to add to the world in turn

In other words - work around the best people, change the world with the best people. Easy, right?

Are we there yet?

Why it matters

No matter how experienced or successful you are, your job hunt is going to be stressful. Even after you’ve decided what you want, it's all too easy to overanalyze, move slowly, or refuse to make hard choices.

You have to allow yourself enough time to make the right choicse. That always means you have to control the timeline.

You’re on your way. But there’s a lot more to do before you’re ready to get what you’re worth. When you get the complete Playbook, you’ll get access to tips, scripts, and practice videos covering every step, including: applying for the job, fielding and understanding those offers, and negotiating for more.
